What's Up?
Okay, my hubby and I went to the mall in downtown Columbus over the weekend. We needed to get some special candy(for my bro's graduation party) at one of their stores. We also were going to eat at a great restaurant called Spinnakers(they have yummy flower pot bread).
We got a really good parking spot and headed inside. We were surprised to come into a deserted mall. I mean, it was only 8pm and all the stores were closed...and even most of the restaurants. We talked to a Spinnakers employee and he told us that the mall was going down hill. Since it was dead so late at night, the only restaurant still open in the mall was Max & Ermas.
This used to be THE mall. What happened to it? It was closed by 7 on the weekend! Crazy!

City Center hasn't been THE mall in over five years. With Easton and Polaris and the other suburban upscale shopping malls, no one goes downtown anymore. As more and more people move further from downtown, it becomes more of an inconvenience to shop there. That is why the Arena District and things are such big deals, they need to have things to draw people back downtown. Corporations are leaving, stores are leaving.
Easton is the same distance for me, but it doesn't cost to park. Plus, there are more stores. I don't even know if City Center has an anchor store anymore, I know that they lost Lazarus/Macy's.
It's a shame. At least Spinnakers should move out to Easton or something so we can keep up w/ the flowerpot bread.
