Chewy Cheerios

Better Safe Than Sorry and Amanda Sue have asked about chewy Cheerios, so I thought I would post a little something about them. They are sticky and very chewy (hence the name!) and are a little similar to rice krispies. They are always a big hit at parties and the kids love them. So, here is the recipe:

Mix and boil the following four ingredients:
1 stick butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 t. salt
1/2 cup light corn syrup or pancake syrup

After a 2 min boil, add 1/2 t. baking soda

Then pour the mixture over 6 cups of regular Cheerios that are on a foil covered, non-stick sprayed cookie sheet (it makes for easy cleanup).

Bake for 15 min at 250 degrees. After taking it out of oven, mix up the Cheerios (will clump together) so that all the pieces are coated evenly.

Btw, you can mix other things with the Cheerios as nuts or raisins. Enjoy!!!

I have had cheerios in bars like Rice Krispy treats. Is this the same?

If you are talking about the cereal breakfast bars, then yes, they are very similar. But the chewy Cheerios came first...heehee!
